The Jackal is a DIY one man submarine made from four 44 gallon drums.  Currently it is three years in the making and this year (2017) it is planned for launch.

Since I was fifteen I had been eyeing off large 1,000 liter containers dreaming about rigging it with pvc pipes and plastic 44's as ballast tanks and then diving to the bottom of the nearby dam, but it wasn't till I was twenty-three (and bored on a long weekend) did I spot a lonely 44 gallon drum wedged behind the shed and then had the thought that I could transform that into a submarine.  That day was early January 2014 and the sub has been a night and weekend project ever since.

It's intended to reach a maximum depth (non-pressurized) of ten meters.  But pressure tests will tell me what exactly will be safe.  Anything below ten meters may be possible by pressurizing the hull.
