Today is the first day of January 2017 so I decided I'd put together a list of things that are yet to be completed on the sub. A list of the testing stages can be found here.
Red is not started.
Orange is underway.
Green is a compete.
Gray is not planned for initial launch.
Gray is not planned for initial launch.
- The hatch locking mechanism. (To be done after successful pressure tests)
- Drill holes in the aluminum heat-sinks for both the lights and some fans too. (08/01/2017)
- Wire up the voltage booster for the lights.
- Use the mill to cut the light covers out of 6mm scratch resistant poly-carbonate.
- Weld together the diving plane hubs on the side of the conning tower.
- Hatch seal.
- Weld together some locating pins so that the hatch is closed exactly right on the seal.
- Upgrade the current windows to 6mm thick poly-carbonate for pressure testing. (07/01/2017)
- Weld two handles to the top of the hatch dome and one handle to the inside. (11/01/2017)
- A periscope will be built into the hatch.
- Weld in remaining reinforcing rings to the conning tower.
- Water cooling system for the air compressor and the LED lights. (At the moment they are air cooled)
- Life support system. This includes Co2 scrubbing, probably by passing air through soda-lime, and an oxygen tank, as well as a Co2 & O2 monitoring system.
- Buy Co2 & O2 sensors.
- Start buying parts for the trailer.
- The trailer.
- Pipe to seal the electrical cable for the submersible motor. (08/01/2017)
- Rubber buffers between all metal to metal points of contact on the outside of the hull. (Made from 1mm or 2mm thick neoprene)
- Buy 1mm & 2mm rubber sheets.
- All paint must be striped of main hull. (28/01/2017)
- Strip paint of conning tower.
- The hull needs to be coated in the final color. (28/01/2017)
- Fill in various dents in the hull with car body filler. (These are small dents only)
- Ballast tanks need to be finished. (Mostly just the right side)
- Ballast tanks will be painted before being testing in stage two.
- The final windows need to be made from scratch resistant poly-carbonate.
- All final seals will be made from black Sikaflex-291.
- All welds double checked for integrity. (Included in stage one of testing) (10/01/2017)
- Make diving planes & elevators.
- Make diving plane hub and actuators.
- Make both the lower and upper dash boards.
- Wire in the electrical system.
- Make the throttle.
- Design the throttle control system.
- Make the throttle control system.
- Work on perfecting the float valves for all the ballast & trim tanks.
- Thread the shaft for the ballast release mechanism.
- Seal all water pipe thread joins with stag sealant. (11/01/2017)
- Test all solenoid valves.
- Buy sonar module. (29/01/2017)
- A sonar system.
- Build the computer that will manage and control the diving & ascending. (I will probably use the Raspberry Pi 3)
- Last will be weighing the sub and calculating it's buoyancy before buying lead and molding then attaching the weights to make it neutrally buoyant.
